Dog eats dog II

Do you think Citigroup will bid for ABN Amro too?

This merger between ABN Amro and Barclays is getting very interesting. If the bid is successful, it will create a bank worth more than US166 billion. Wah sei ~ and the outline for the merger looks cool. The combined entity will be listed in London, while the headquarter will remain in Amsterdam. What about the top jobs, you may ask. CEO of Barclays will remain as the CEO of the combined entity, while the CEO of ABN Amro will be the chairman. Speaking of iron ricebowl ~
What's make this more interesting is that many analysts believe Barclays can't create the best value for ABN Amro shareholders in the future, i.e. not much synergy. Thus, many are speculating that powerhouses like Citigroup, RBS, or HSBC will join in the race with hostile bids. Do you think Citigroup will bid? It's currently encountering alot of problems in its bid for Japan's Nikko Cordial Corp, and I believe the development of this acquisition will affect its decision in whether to join in the race for ABN Amro.
Oh well ~ what do you think? Which dog will win?
