There is a case to be on trial next week. Lawyer-A and Lawyer-B are the opposing parties. In this coming week, Lawyer-A does all his research for the case. He went through sleepless night trying to support his argument. Day in, day out, he is inside his study room preparing his speech. Lawyer-B did exactly the same thing too. The only difference? Lawyer-B went on to read up on the Judge for the case. He went through Judge's profile even before he starts his research on the case.
I think you understand what I am trying to hit at? Lawyer-B may just put in the same effort on the case, yet he directs it toward the determinant of the case's outcome - the Judge. Everything equal, who will most likely convince the Judge? You decide.
Isn't it the same in class? Your professor determines your grade. Yet, term in term out, I have friends who whinned to me how much effort they have put into the course and ended up with average grades instead? Sigh ...... other than yourself, who is the next person in determining your grade? That's the professor!
You don't bloody walk to the professor to demand A+ just because you put in ultra effort. You don't do all the bloody long reports thinking that the professor will read every single line. You got to give what the professor wants! You should understand his/her style even before you start your research! Don't fucking waste your time doing things that he/she won't appreciate.
It's the same in the business world. Your boss isn't going to evaluate you based on the problems you faced, but on the solutions you gave. Give him what he wants, and he will reward you with what you want too.
But of coz, don't mistaken it as bootlicking. This is simply "understanding your audience". Don't come to me again, telling me how much you deserve good grade just because of your effort. Take my words - Effort counts ..... only if you succeed.
